Holiday Hubbub

Tis six days before Christmas and all through the house, there are signs of this and that yet to be done.

The kitchen island is often alive with cards and stamps, a pen and lists of names.

A bed upstairs is covered with boxes and wrapping paper and scissors and tape.

On the deck and in the freezers are cookies galore which will all go in holiday plates.

In the midst of all this, Annie will come home tonight, and Willie's girls will play one more game before Christmas.

We hope to all be there to watch.

It's truly Christmas hubbub time, but, happily, no job on the "to do" list is too intimidating anymore.  I usually rotate my daily schedule from one task to another.

With luck, on this rainy Tuesday, I'll have my cards finished and in the mail today and maybe even all my gifts wrapped.

These are fun days, especially with all the expectation of family gatherings and some laid-back Hallmark movie couch-potato time.

Speaking of laid-back, that's how I'm planning to approach the blog for the next week. It'll show up, but some days maybe light on content.

After all, it's vacation time, right?

Have a happy Tuesday and good luck with all your hubbub.

Enjoy the photos and the video with Ed Sheeran.

My former student and friend, Laurie Blackwell, who now lives in Phoenix, sent us one of her hand-crafted Christmas cards.

Laurie's career has involved teaching, but she also dabbles in art and tarot-card readings.

You can see her work at

This year's Christmas tree lights have created quite a unique color phenomenon on the nearby deck shrubbery.

I could not resist capturing a photo of this bunch as they walked past our driveway yesterday.

Before we discovered and fell forever in love with the Border Collie breed, my favorite breed of dog was the Golden Retriever.

We had one named Pupper.  He was the kindest, most laid-back and patient dog I'd ever seen.

Pupper mysteriously disappeared one day,  and we never saw him again.

It was a sad loss, and every time I see a Golden Retriever, I think fondly back on our Pupper.

To see three yesterday was a real treat.
