Friday Mutterings

As I type, Bert Wood is over at the Meserve Preserve determining where the electric fence surrounding one of his summer grazing pastures is faulty.

Apparently, his bull jumped the fence and went girl chasing.

I told Bert when I saw him out on the road that the bull had come home because he was bellering right next to our barnyard this morning while I took the horses to pasture.

It's that time of year when bulls get very loquacious.

Meanwhile, the cow above is spending the summer with its herd at the Del Bader place at the north end of our road.

I noticed last night that the entire herd had found a place to beat the heat in a gully with lots of shade next to the road.

This cow was playing peekaboo as you can see in a photo below.

Of course, I noticed.

Our daughter Annie will be walking this 500-mile route of the Camino de Santiago, starting next month.

This year's edition will mark the fifth time she has walked a Camino; the second time for this route.

Annie earns a sabbatical every few years from her employer Groundspeak, Inc. The company runs the geocaching.com website.

This is her sabbatical year so she chose to use her extra time off to walk the 500 miles from France across Northern Spain once again.

She will be posting occasionally before the trip and regularly while walking on her ongoing Camino blog, which can be found at

Annie has planned---after she finishes in September and when we meet her in Santiago---to select a short segment of the Camino for Bill and me to walk while we're in Spain.

Talk about a wonderful gift for Mom and Dad Love!

Anyway, I did take note of the story in this morning's paper and thought it was worth sharing.

Camino stories are endless but inspirational.

And, while I'm at it, I'll also mention the movie The Way with Martin Sheen if you want to learn more about this pilgrimage which attracts thousands from around the world every year.

Since I have posted a very meaningful video below, that's all for today.

Happy Friday.  Hope you like the video.

The horses were wondering what that bull had on his mind this morning as he bellered on the other side of the  barnyard fence.

On any given day of life, we all can use poignant reminders.

Steve Gleason provided a few in his acceptance speech at last night's ESPY awards.
