Leaves and Ed's and Sweet Lou's

Bill has already left to go teach a first-period class for Sandpoint High School.

The class will be held at Pine Street Woods, and it involves something to do with forestry.

That means two Love's are teaching for the high school today---Bill and Willie.

This is a one-day gig for Bill, and Willie has the rest of the school year to teach his classes.

Last night Willie was on hand at Sweet Lou's Restaurant with his other coaches and girls basketball players to welcome and help serve diners at Sweet Lou's.  It was a fundraiser for the girls' team.

Diners included the Love parents along with many other parents and friends.  We ate more last night than we usually do while eating out.

Willie advised us that it would be good to get a drink, and appetizer, the main meal and a dessert. The girls basketball team would be earning 20 percent of whatever was sold last night.

So, we followed orders and stuffed ourselves, bringing home some of the potato skin appetizers, which were yum, yum, by the way. We also enjoyed a huckleberry cobbler dessert.

And, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting some of the players who were shadowing Sweet Lou's serving staff.

A highlight of the evening involved a nice visit with John, Janice and Ryan Knowles (SHS head football coach).  Ryan's daughter is a member of the team, while his son is playing eighth-grade football.

When our house burned down in 1984, John Knowles, who was living across from my parents at the time, built our new home.

Willie and Ryan grew up in the same neighborhood and spent some time playing together as younger boys.

During these past several years, we have always thought it was pretty neat that these two longtime friends have come back to their alma mater to coach.

We discovered during our visit that among the Knowles and Love men at the dinner last night, there are five "Ed's."

In the Knowles case, middle names are Edward, while Bill and Willie share the middle name Edgar.

There was lots of hometown talk during last night's event, and that made it all the more fun.

From the looks of the crowd, it appeared to be a successful fundraiser.

The girls team starts practice in early November.  They play their first game in mid-November, so we'll be ready with our bleacher chairs to plop ourselves behind the team and cheer them on.

SHS players Chloe and Livia were having a great time schmoozing with diners at Sweet Lou's last night.

Lifelong friends from the neighborhood: Ryan Knowles, Sandpoint High head football coach and Will Love, SHS girls basketball coach.

Debbie and her group of enthusiastic Bonner Community Food Bank volunteers supported the girls basketball team by dining at Sweet Lou's last night.

Brecken, an SHS standout,  spent her summer honing her basketball skills all over the nation.

Five Ed's in their middle names: William Edgar Love, Jr., Drew Edward Knowles, William Edgar Love III, John Edward Knowles and Ryan Edward Knowles.

Jordyn, who's enroute to Idaho Falls for the 5A State Soccer Tournament today, grabbed her No. 4 jersey last night.

Sandpoint High is hosting the 6A State Tournament at Barlow Stadium beginning tomorrow, so Willie will be doing a lot of filming of games for the high school network over the next few days.

I picked up thousands of leaves yesterday with the lawnmower and its bags.  It will be a seemingly never-ending job until it snows or until almost every last leaf has gone to a pile.

We can expect two or three deer runs a day through the front yard. Yesterday was no exception.

Even though I'll be seeing and dealing with leaves for some time, I never tire of the magnificent beauty they offer while still clinging to the trees or shortly after they fall.

The leaf show has been amazing this year.

Happy Wednesday.
