March Madness for dogs at the Lovestead.
Bridie didn't mind one bit being a couch potato most of the day yesterday while Ma and Pa Love watched NCAA men's basketball games.
She did move over for Bill to sit in his usual spot for watching basketball. Bridie knew how important it was for Bill feel comfortable while watching the McNeese State Cowboys.
McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, is Bill's alma mater. He played tuba in the college band and served as its president.
Yesterday, the Cowboys started playing Clemson about an hour before Gonzaga's game, so Bill could stick to his McNeese hat.
Later, however, he wanted to display total "equity" and "inclusion" and "diversity" in his team support, so he added the ZAGS hat and used the remote to switch back and forth as McNeese wowed the nation with its dominance of -higher-seeded Clemson.
What a two hours or so that was! Both teams playing topnotch basketball.
An irony: last year was the first time McNeese had ever earned a spot in the tournament. They were matched up with Gonzaga, who beat them in the first round.
Yesterday turned out to be a much happier story all the way around, as both of Bill's teams won and McNeese secured its first-ever NCAA tournament win.
Along with McNeese's success yesterday, the story of their team manager has also had a Cinderella touch to it, as you'll see in the following video.
Neat stories, like "Aura's," always come out of this tournament, and this is one of the best.
Here's the scoop on Gonzaga's next round. It will be a tough one, but from what we saw yesterday, the ZAGS are up to it.
McNeese plays Purdue tomorrow in its first-ever experience in the March Madness second round. They tip off at 9:10 PDT on CBS. Should be a fun game and some more fun stuff about the manager.
If both Gonzaga and McNeese should win tomorrow, they may play each other and Bill would not have to use the remote.
GO, ZAGS! GO, COWBOYS!
One last piece of March Madness news for the record books, cuz I'm sure it won't last.
After the first full day of the tournament, one of my submissions ranks No. 1 among a pool of more than 150 brackets.
Be prepared.
Even though it's officially spring, we still don't know when we can put some of these items away for the season, so they all are right next to the door.
With such a bland landscape around the Lovestead these days, I borrowed some images to add a little color to this morning's post.
With another full day of basketball action, we really don't care about the weather.
Happy Friday. Enjoy the Madness.
