Pure Bliss of a Newly Mown Lawn, Etc.

It's a reward every time.

If I were to calculate how many times in my life I have mowed a lawn, my "reward" notches would go off the charts.

Some of us in humankind just LOVE mowing lawns.

Others who have never had the opportunity to operate a lawnmower are missing out on one of the most instantly gratifying, satisfying tasks of life.

I'm actually glad that my other immediate family members are not nearly as keen on lawn mowing as I am.

Some of them learned how to get out of the job after just one try.

Their theory:  leave a lot of bouquets or even some big patches of tall grass right in the middle of what you do mow.

Do that, and she's gonna go bonkers.  Better yet, she  won't ask you to mow the lawn again.

That has happened on a couple of occasions in the Love family.

And, that has sentenced---or should I say---provided me the exclusive OPPORTUNITY to mow the lawn every time.

The only time Marianne mowing the lawn ever bothers Bill is when Marianne's lawnmowers go down.

It's not a pretty sight, and I'm not just talking about ragged lawns with foot-tall dandelions.

I don't handle lawn equipment breakdowns very well, and Bill usually feels no relief until those situations are solved, even if it means going straight to town to buy a new lawnmower.

Yes, that has happened at our house.

That's why these days we have two riding lawnmowers.

It lessens the possibilities of both of them breaking down at the same time and Marianne having to wait for, Tony, the busiest lawnmower repairman in the world to come and fix 'em.

Yeah, ugly has reared its ugly head a few times during my lawn-mowing career, but, happily, this year both machines are running well and marital bliss is doing okay.

Those who love mowing lawns know that the benefits that far exceed the frustrations of broken equipment or turning into a disheveled dirtbag every time the job is finished.

We love the open air, looking at the mountains, watching the activities of the world as we make our swaths from one end of the lawn to the other or as some of us start with the outside circle and work inward as we manicure.

The ultimate reward comes when it's all done, and, especially in May at our house, seems about as pretty as it ever gets.

And, with that ultimate reward comes the satisfying  stroll around the yard admiring the beauty and the tidiness.

During this time of the year, enjoyment of a newly mown lawn can be fleeting, especially if temps are warm and decapitated dandelions rise up for one more stab at life.

The results of my lawn-mowing job from yesterday has lasted overnight, and this morning appears almost more beautiful that it did late yesterday afternoon.

You see we had a gentle overnight rain which washed the earth, including everyone of those brown dust-coated cedars forming a border along our road right-of-way.

All is stunningly beautiful this morning because of a newly mown lawn accented with splashes of color and with those two blossom-filled apple trees.

It won't last long, and I'll be back mowing soon anticipating the next period of yardly bliss.

Love, love, love getting to mow the lawn.

You'll see that I also loved helping Willie and Debbie's German exchange student Emma celebrate her 17th birthday last night.

A good time was had by all.

Today's agenda:  CB comes home from basic training. Liam will be thrilled.

Happy Wednesday.
