Nature's Calendar: Almost August

Full-fledged grasshopper assaults down the lane.

Most hay fields bare, 'cept for clipped grass growing.

Farmers with hay in the barn heading off in travel trailers.

Pictures of the Festival tent appearing on Facebook.

Local radio playing tunes by this year's Festival attractions.

Talk of Halloween.  NO!  Please NO!

Worse than hearing those back-to-school ads. 

Colors changing in fields, on trees and bushes.

Thistles blooming.

Calves growing.

Christmas colors in the forest with thimble berries turning red against green leaf backgrounds.

Marigolds and orange tones aplenty.

Sweet peas smelling oh so sweet.

Influx in green bean population.

Cukes ready to pluck and slice.

Swimmers and their critter friends enjoying the Pack. 

Cold morning air giving a slight hint of fall.

When every farmer's hay in the barn, they'll join the chorus, singing praises of a summer of moderation and a summer of no smoke. 

Let's hope it stays that way, cuz it sure has been and continues to be a pleasant change from past years. 

So far, so good.
