A Slight Detour

Life changed a bit Sunday for several family members.

In a nutshell, Willie and Debbie's house, which they have rented from my sisters, Barbara and Laurie, at Tibbs Arabians in Colburn caught on fire.

All peeps (four of them, including Debbie's brother and mother) and three grandpuppies escaped quickly.

Fast action with some garden hoses probably kept the flames under control until Northside fire fighters, et. al. arrived.

Yesterday, the state fire marshall listed the cause of the fire, which started outside the house, as accidental.

My sisters and Willie and Debbie have contacted their respective property-owner and rental insurers.

As information unfolds, Barbara and Laurie will decide what path to take in regard to the future of the house.

In the meantime, the Lovestead has some new residents and three more Border Collies.

Doggies are learning to adjust as are the people, and things have gone smoothly, considering the circumstances.

Twas a long day for all of us yesterday, as the fire was discovered shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday evening after the Young Love's and their guests had gone to bed for the night.

Then Willie smelled smoke. He and Debbie wasted no time clearing the house of people and dogs.

The fire fighters, with as many as 8-9 engines, worked for several hours dousing flames and dealing with smoke coming from the attic.  We all appreciate their brave efforts and their helpful guidance.

Miraculously, visible damage was contained to the north end of the house.

And, the tears flowed when a walk through revealed that valuable photos, paintings and a crucial schoolteacher laptop all survived.

So, yesterday, while most folks were remembering the 40th anniversary of the Mount St. Helens Volcanic eruption of May 18, 1980, our minds were recalling and recounting events of another day, Dec. 20, 1984, when our house on Great Northern Road was destroyed by fire.

Lots of emotions, to say the least, and one pronouncement by Willie that 2020 hasn't been so good.

And, so, comes another slight detour in life's journey for my sisters and our Love family.

If there was a silver lining to be found in having experienced another house fire in our lives, I guess it would be that we learned "the drill" of what to do, whom to contact, and the general basics of moving forward.

And, that shall happen for all of us as we wind our ways down this detour of life and hopefully direct ourselves toward a straight stretch of relatively blissful open road ahead.

Seems like an analogy for the grand scheme of things for everyone on this earth at this time.

For now, as always, we are grateful for each other, for those who helped and who have offered help and for the simple gifts of caring and cooperation that steer us through each day, one step at a time.

And, then there's the beauty and wonders of the land and its critters around us here in the Selle Valley, reminding us of the potential that this too shall pass

Happy Tuesday.
