It was only one section of barnyard fence, but having the opportunity to paint it as birds filled the air with song and in the warmth of early spring sunshine gave me an extra lift yesterday.
There is SO much to clean up around our Lovestead from this destructive winter, so to be able to look at those newly painted boards warms my heart every time I see the small improvement in the outdoor scene.
This morning, the fence is even whiter as big flakes of more snow fall. The weather forecasters said rain, but, at this time of year, the Selle Valley usually gets snow instead.
In other news, I received information from a friend about the nonprofit group mentioned in the article below.
Their website can be found with the second link. After giving the site a quick lookover, I encourage all voters to visit the site and bookmark it and check for updates often.
Seems like a good "bible" for research and making important decisions with our upcoming Idaho primary and general election.

I found it relatively easy to arise from my slumber on this first day of Daylight Savings time.
Why?
My first thought was of March Madness and that this is Selection Sunday and that the next few weeks promise excitement like we haven't seen in two years.
Things are pretty much back to normal. Some of us junkies have watched more than our share of league tournaments and championships, and we're ready for the big dance where our team starts out as No. 1, and we hope they finish No. 1.
This year's March Madness is especially meaningful to Gonzaga fans because over the years we've watched all these coaches (in the tidbit below) play important roles in ZAGS success.
Now, they all coach their own college teams and are doing so VERY successfully. Must be something going very well with the Gonzaga program.

Today could be a special day for the Fitzgerald/Zags coaching tree. Could we see four conference champions with roots to the little Jesuit school in Spokane?
Mark Few | Gonzaga | AUTOBID Leon Rice | Boise St. | AUTOBID Tommy Lloyd | Arizona | ? Dan Monson | Long Beach St. | ?
Today also marks a good time to think about another beloved celebration for the Irish.
From what I've seen, St. Patrick's Day is returning to normal in Ireland and around the world.
I know of friends who are counting the days, not only for this celebration, but also for their own travel experience to the homeland.
My friend Marcia, a Sandpoint-area trip planner extraordinaire, is taking two groups to Ireland in April and May.
Lots going on for the Irish, and it's usually fun stuff, like the green river in Chicago.
Also today, I'm including my friend Connie's blog post because there's a good Border Collie story with their pup Willie.
Enjoy.

With St. Patrick's Day coming up soon, I love having the excuse to feature some Irish music in the lead up.
I love today's selection not only because it's a beautiful ballad, but also because Bill and I had an interesting experience near the Fields of Athenry a few years ago.
We were supposed to stay at an Air BnB nearby, but changed our mind after being greeted by a seemingly strange man, wearing a tie and a florescent vest.
We found out later that he had Alzheimers, and his wife had not expected us to show up without calling first.
The combination of his bizarre antics and earthy comments, along with the fact that she was upset with us for not calling first led us to look for other accommodations.
Thank goodness for Annie in Seattle who used her amazing tech skills and quickly found us a place to stay near Galway.

"The Fields of Athenry" is a song written in 1979 by Pete St. John in the style of an Irish folk ballad.
Set during the Great Famine of the 1840s, the lyrics feature a fictional man from near Athenry in County Galway, who stole food for his starving family and has been sentenced to transportation to the Australian penal colony at Botany Bay.
It has become a widely known, popular anthem for Irish sports supporters.
Enjoy this hauntingly beautiful version.
