Couldn't be any prouder!
Facts: Sandpoint High School girls varsity basketball will compete next week at the Idaho State Girls Basketball championships in the Boise area.
They will represent Division 4A of the Inland Empire League.
To earn this opportunity, the Bulldogs went undefeated in their regular league games and then swept their two tournament games for a perfect league record.
They have earned a 17-5 record for this season.
Let's hope when it's over next weekend, they'll increase their win-loss column to 20-5.
Les Rogers Bulldog Gym was electric last night, and Willie's varsity players were charged up from the get-go, at one time leading Lakeland 15-0.
It was especially fun for Bill and me to have other family members there to see the team and others watching the game online.
It meant a lot to us, and I know Willie appreciated it.
For Bill and me, the evening was especially poignant, having watched our son's sports journey throughout his life.
Last night's win felt like a pinnacle moment for him. Twas in his hometown gym in front of so many who've watched him grow up and now excelling as a coach of the sport he loves so much.
Yes, we're proud parents and a proud family.
This year's squad defines the concept of the word "team."
It's a group of highly talented, skilled and passionate players who have dazzled audiences with their individual efforts and their ability to work like a well-oiled machine.
Willie's dedicated assistants, Joe and Maddie have played a vital role in this year's success also.
Last night's victory was wonderful for all involved---players, coaches, parents, support staff and community.
The well-oiled Bulldog machine made the community proud.
Plus, their efforts this season and, especially through the tournament, inspired. Lots of little girls were watching and dreaming of their "shining moments" to come.
In a nutshell, last night was the best.
Willie's Aunt Laurie and Uncle Kevin |
Such a treat it was to see new SHS principal Jacki Crossingham in person last night and give her a congratulatory hug.
Jacki is a former student. Her son Christian, who is going into education, told me that my son Mr. Love was his journalism teacher and his favorite.
Nice full circle.
Wonderful to see Jeralyn, SHS counselor extraordinaire and our neighbors, the Taylor family, last night. BTW: Bill still wants Peter Taylor to run for mayor of Matchwood. Got that, Peter??? |
Sports photographer extraordinaire, Jason Duchow |
Former student Travis Tyler and his son Jordan. |
I have dubbed Lily Richardson as my favorite Bulldog player because her name is Lily, like my horse and my grandmother. Lily has other Lily's in her family too.
She's a phenomenal player, as are they all.
Dedicated to the Sandpoint High School Girls Varsity Basketball team, coaches and support.
Scroll the pictures and listen.
Wishing you another shining moment at State.
