I had to massage the metal gate snaps in my hand for several seconds this morning.
A freeze after a couple of days of rain seems to have more gusto, and those snaps were not going to slide open until they felt some warmth.
That was the worst aspect of the morning.
The rest was pure heaven with a sun shining brightly and clouds laced with orange trim and a slightly frozen land surface teeming with rich green grass ready to shoot up with even a little bit of warmth.
It's a day filled with promise and endorphins aplenty.
We have waited a long, long time for this time.
And, we are grateful.
The rains have stopped and we should see some dryer ground soon.
My horses are now spending their days in the round pen, bringing an end to their slogging around in squishy, soupy mud.
Plus, little spears of green grass are growing in the round pen which should keep the nibbling going throughout the day.
Eventually, we'll see the acrobatics of horses in contortion, reaching for grass outside the pen.
Yesterday, even in the rain, new green grass offered a lovely dimension to a picture-taking session I enjoyed with our two cats.
Mooch and Sunny are now being seen outside the barn with noses busy in hopes of finding mice.
To say Mooch is a scraggy, disheveled cat would be an understatement, but for some reason he (I think he's a he) is as photogenic as any cat I've ever seen.
Sunny's bright mix of colors and her elegance offers a stunning view as she relaxes or plays in the new grass.
We also have a pair of geese who spend their days in the middle of the lane. I don't know where they go at night, but I suspect when I head back outside, they'll be back in the lane.
And, the squirrels are busy in the yard, along with all the singing birds.
It's a grand time and a grand day for embracing all the quickly developing beauty of the outdoors.
And, yes, we are more than ready to enjoy every moment that living and breathing nature has to offer.

On another topic, for those who love the sport or who aspire to become a geocacher, here's a new interview with Annie Love.
And, for locals, an interesting event from this week's Sandpoint Online.
