We did Monday in reverse yesterday.
Instead of tending to work in the morning and easing off in the afternoon, when we took Foster and headed out the driveway toward Montana, it was about 9:15.
Pouring rain and plenty more coming over the next few hours made it easy to do something different.
There's a lot to be said for breaking one's usual routine---mainly a distinct attitude improvement.
Bill and I both agreed that we had been in waiting mode far too long to wait yet another day inside our house and groan about the weather outside.
So, the minute we turned out of the driveway, I was feeling like a new woman.
The day got better as we made stops and so did the rain.
It seemed like every time we parked----at the drift yard, at the Clark Fork pantry, along the Clark Fork River and while strolling through a bird sanctuary south of Heron----the rain took a break, allowing us some fresh air time.
That was nice, and it made us even happier that we had chosen to go for the morning drive.
Foster enjoyed himself too while sniffing along unfamiliar ground while we walked around enjoying white swans, geese, ducks, the kildeer and the inhabitants of the bird sanctuary along Elk Creek Road near Heron.
I took a bathroom break at the relatively new and beautiful Heron Siding General Store.
Inside, I met Rabette and Hannah, both very friendly and welcoming.
We enjoyed a nice get-acquainted conversation, and before leaving, I assured the ladies that we would be back.
As you'll read in the article below, the spotless and attractive store provides a nice draw for the community with groceries, animal feed and a small restaurant which touts the "hobo bowl."
Several tables outside suggest that the place would be a fun spot to enjoy lunch on a road trip like ours.
After leaving the store, we traveled down a road we had never taken where we discovered the guest ranch and enjoyed a pleasant walk through the the bird sanctuary with its babbling brook.
The great part about our break with routine: we arrived back home by 1:15. The rain had stopped and we felt re-invigorated, uplifted and ready to tackle our individual home chores and projects.
It's raining again today, and I suggest we may have to do a repeat of yesterday, but we'll save that idea for another rainy day.
Happy Tuesday. Enjoy the photos.
