Easter Tradition in the Books

Our only disappointment:  the Canadian horses did not show up to put on their usual show, which often comes about halfway through our visit.

The best part:  raindrops did not fall until we were ready to get in our cars and head home.

The happiest member of the group:  Joe. He wasted no time going down over the embankment and jumping into the relatively low waters of Boundary Creek.

Heck, he may have even swum over to Canada for a second or two.

The event:  our version of the annual Easter afternoon celebration.

This time six peeps and four dogs drove through the Kootenai Valley and up to the Fish and Game property at the Canadian border.

Bill and I opted to leave Liam and Bridie home because of inter puppy dynamics.  Twas easier on all involved, especially considering Foster's blindness.

Foster found a new friend in Kenny.  They met once or twice a long time ago in Kenny's life when he was a really small puppy, but yesterday's Easter picnic provided the perfect get-acquainted party for the two.

Foster did okay in the picnic area where he does not know where the obstacles are. He also protected his bites with his characteristic snarl, even when nobody was even looking at his bites.

The peeps included Barbara, Laurie, Willie, Debbie, Bill and Marianne.

The food spread, including ham, chicken, beef, Wood's German sausages, Caesar salad, Willie's famous potatoes, mac n' cheese, rolls, chips and Easter candy, provided a tasty treat for our palates.

Our spot near the Canadian border and across the creek from Porthill did not disappoint.  As usual, we had the wide-open preserve all to ourselves, 'cept for a lady we saw walking down the road.

It's definitely an Easter escape cuz cell phones are off and the main noise, other than ours, comes from a variety of birds flying to and fro.

Yesterday's relatively warm temperature offered another dimension to the relaxation mode.  No shivering, no need to wear coats for most of the picnic and a sense that everyone was enjoying the nature of it all.

We took a stroll (the peeps, that is) down to the beach area across from Porthill and just admired the scenery and enjoyed watching Joe swim and Kenny supervise.

Another great and tasty Easter escape!

Now, we move on with spring.  This morning a quiet rain is falling, and the temperature allowed me to turn off the heaters in my greenhouse.

Angle worms are out and birds are singing up a storm.

And, the grass is much greener than it was yesterday.

A lovely start to the week.

Happy Monday.
