It's a May thing.
Bill likes to drive up Trail Creek every year during this month.
So, we did yesterday afternoon.
We even hiked for a ways on the road beyond the gate with Foster.
We always park at a big open spot before the gate which has horse corrals and an outdoor john.
Usually, we are greeted by mosquitoes, and we had brought along our spray. Happily, it was not needed.
Bill figured that maybe we were some of the first people up there this year so the mosquitoes didn't know the good eats had arrived.
I doubt that, but I didn't miss them.
We didn't walk too far, maybe two thirds of a mile, but it was nice to see the trilium up close and to watch busy butterflies of various colors launch off, fly around briefly and then land, often on a flower.
We could hear the creek running somewhat furiously down below us. It was a first walk in the mountains and a lovely drive with roadside shrubbery leafed out and, as yet, without layers of dust.
Plus, the views of the still snow-capped Selkirk Mountains were stunning.
The day was beautiful and fun from start to finish.
After morning watering, I drove to the county administrative office and cast my votes for the hospital and library boards.
It's unbelievable to see the frenetic competition for these seats and the campaign money spent to secure them.
Anywho, I have voted and the positions will be decided after Tuesday's election.
I also spent a few minutes taking a quick tour of my friend and blog editor Helen's new home.
She and Skip are loving the change.
We'll start seeing more of these beauties cruising around soon as Sandpoint revs up to Lost in the '50s weekend this upcoming week.
Thank you, Willie and Debbie. The house is ablaze with vases of yellow tulips. So beautiful and so appreciated. |
Speaking of kids, Annie is now experiencing in the rigorous challenges on her Camino walk.
Weather and dramatic elevation changes have been the key obstacles, as well as a big dog.
So, check out her latest blog post (links below) and feel free to leave a comment to cheer her on.
Annie met this bovine friend as she started her walk this morning. BTW: she has finished the day and has posted today's story also.
So, you'll have a bonus in great photos and some drama along her way.
