Saturday Slight

The adventure has begun.

Our little green Subaru took us across the state of Washington yesterday to Seattle.

We met our daughter Annie last night at our hotel, and then she drove us through some areas north and west of downtown Seattle which we had never seen.

We ate dinner at the Highlander, which is part of a complex of stores and restaurants near the Fisherman's Terminal.

Rain started when we arrived at our hotel, but happily it had stopped after we finished our dinner.

So, we spent some time moseying around the Fisherman's Terminal, admiring the boats and seeing glimpses of its history via signage and displays.

We also visited a lovely picnic park, called Golden Gardens, where we saw seals popping up their heads here and there along the shoreline.

A flock of geese also kept us entertained, and some sunlight competed with the clouds enough to offer a somewhat moderate sunset.

It was a lovely introduction to a couple of days here in Seattle where today we'll be among the 30,000 plus fans watching the Mariners take on the Chicago White Sox.

Annie tells us that we have seats three rows from the field near first base.  So, if you're watching the game on TV today, wave, and we'll wave back.

George Strait, Little Bigtown and Chris are performing at Lumen Field today also. George was the talk of the breakfast room here at the hotel this morning.

When one guest suggested that George Strait was "so yesterday," one of his fans in the room set him "straight," no pun intended.

She's pretty excited about today's event and was happy to tell about her last concert which featured Garth Brooks.

For a while, we were the only members of the White race in the breakfast room, which was full.

We thoroughly enjoyed the diversity in the room and had some fun moments joining in on the George Strait discussion.

Anywho, we are excited to spend the day with Annie, taking in a little of the "big town" ourselves.

And, tomorrow?  Stay tuned.

Happy Saturday from Seattle.

Her name is Sammy.  She's from the Makenzie River area in Oregon.  She and her folks were headed back home when I met them at a Washington rest stop yesterday.

Sammy is 5; she has herded cattle.  Now she herds her buddy, a silver lab.

Good dog, for sure.  Twas nice meeting Sammy and her family.

This is Chris.

He and his crew mates were preparing their boat for a fishing excursion to Alaska where they will fish through September.

He'll come back to Seattle then, spend a little time and then go on another boat with another crew to spend the next three months cod fishing off the Aleutian Islands.

Chris is formerly a wildland firefighter.  He was on a fire in Arizona when 19 of his fellow firefighters perished a few years ago.

Chris's goal is to fish enough to pay off all his bills and buy a boat of his own.  He has been in the fishing business for six years.

Bill and I saw the new Mormon Temple in Moses Lake for the first time yesterday.

Quite impressive.
